A few opportunities to see some bronze casting - live and on TV:
Designing Ireland is a four part series on RTÉ 1 on Thursday night, exploring the influence of the landscape, history and external influences on Irish design, craft and architecture. Presented by Angela Brady and Sandra O'Connell, it includes several West Cork makers. The first two parts are now available on RTÉ Player and the next episode will be broadcast on Thursday, 19th at 10.15pm, focussing on materials and the influence of the landscape.
If you are around Co. Down this weekend, there is a celebration of the town's Christian heritage, one of the last events in the year-long Columbanus 1400 celebrations with music, story telling and medieval crafts. Karen and I will be doing bell casting demonstrations, showing methods used to cast the 9th century Bangor Bell at North Down Museum, Bangor, Co. Down, 20th and Saturday 21st November, 10.30am - 5pm
And finally, congratulations to Antony Gormley and Douglas Jennings who were the joint winners of this year's Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture. I was delighted to be nominated the second time for this award and it was a pleasure to meet the other sculptors at the award ceremony in London last week.
