As part of Culture Night, there will be a four-hour Bronze Age metal casting demonstration on Friday, the 18th September from 6-10pm at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo. Everyone is welcome to experience the casting of Bronze Age flat axes and a 9th Century style handbell. An exhibition of Karen Hendy's latest work will be opened at the same time in the gallery of Ballinglen Arts Foundation.
The demonstration is part of my two-week residency at the Foundation, supported by a bursary by Cork Co. Co., during which I am aiming to develop ways to explore drawing on new media and develop new work influenced by the coastal landscape of North Mayo. A collaborative project with Don Cronin, who is also in residence, complements the programme of work.
